Lung Cancer: Principles and Practice
Published in Hardcover by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins Publishers (15 May, 2000)
Authors: Harvey I. Md. Pass, James B., Phd Mitchell, David H., MD Johnson, Andrew T., MD Turrisi, and John D., MD Minna
Average review score:

Lung cancer- a review
Pass' book is excellent, well-written, and comprehensive. It is one of the first books patients and family members should go to, though they should be cautioned that the book is written for a medical audience. Skip the first two chapters on mollecular biology which are far too technical, and go to some of the other chapters written in a detailed but comprehensive fashion. This book will prove exceptionally useful, but tough reading for many, so keep a medical dictionary and encylopedia nearby.

An excellent resource for lung cancer clinicians and patient
This second edition is an excellent, readable resource that makes few assumptions about the reader's familiarity with lung cancer, molecular biology, or cancer genetics. Contains many entirely new chapters as well as carefully updated material from the first edition. Geared to oncologists and researchers, but nonetheless a good foundation resource for patients and families who wish to learn a great deal about lung cancer and its management.

Made in the USA: East St. Louis
Published in Paperback by Virginia Publishing (June, 2003)
Author: Andrew J. Theising
Average review score:

A fascinating story
I think Made in USA: East St. Louis is a brilliant description of the rise and fall of an Illinois town. The explanation offered for the East St. Louis you see today is shocking but irrefutable. I love the illustrations. They really compliment the story of 100 years of East St. Louis history. The book and the companion PBS documentary are excellent sources of information for anyone interested in cities and how they operate.

From the Author
Dear Readers: I hope you enjoy this book. It is the first comprehensive scholarly history of the city and I feel it makes a lasting contribution to our understanding of East St. Louis. The story of East St. Louis is not necessarily a happy one, but we must understand the source of problems if we intend to devise lasting solutions. The book has about 250 illustrations of historic photographs and documents. It is the companion volume to the public television documentary of the same name.
Thank you for considering this book.

The Magic Pumpkin: A Lift-The-Flap Book (Teletubbies)
Published in Hardcover by Scholastic (September, 2000)
Authors: Emilie Kong, Andrew Davenport, Itsy Bitsy Entertainment Company, and Scholastic Books
Average review score:

My child loves this book
We got this book for our daughter right before Halloween. It really got her interested in pumkins. She is only 17 months, but the way the teletubbies book it written, you can read it along right to her and she can follow right along with the story. It really speaks to them and their comprehension. She likes teletubbies anyway, but this really was a great book to introduce a holiday. The was her favorite book for a long time.

Interactive
My 2 year old just loves Teletubbies! And being able to flip up the flaps, and play along, makes this book the book she brings to me to read most often. There is also very few words to read on any of the pages. So she doesn't make me turn the pages before I am done reading it.

The Magician's Visit: A Passover Tale
Published in Paperback by Puffin (March, 1995)
Authors: Barbara Diamond Goldin and Robert Andrew Parker
Average review score:

Gifts from heaven
On Passover, the Jewish people recall their slavery in Egypt; each generation must remember as if they themselves had been slaves.

It is also the holiday when they remember the prophet Elijah, welcoming him figuratively into their homes to share the Pesach feast and wine. One highlight of the annual Seders is sending the children to open the door for Elijah.

This story is about one rare time when Elijah paid a visit, as he does from time to time, to reward especially righteous and deserving people. Disguised as a magician, he laid a feast for Hayim-Jonah and Rivkah-Bailah, a couple of great faith who gave their last pennies to the poor people's Passover fund, for there were others having still less than they.

The story itself is a feast of faith for the eyes, ears and heart. Alyssa A. Lappen

a great Passover story
When I saw the title of this book on Amazon, I realized that I hadn't read it yet this Pesach. I jumped up from the computer, ignored the mess in my son's room, and found the book still on his shelf. Reading it, tears came to my eyes as in all other years. My son's 11 now; he probably thinks he's too old for a picture book, but I bet he'll re-read it now that I have it out. It was always one of our favorite books to share about Judaism, because it's so universal. In the story, a poor family gives away everything to even poorer people, and yet Elijah comes to be their seder guest--bringing them joy and comfort and affirmation of their faith. I'm weepy again just thinking about it! Really, this one is worth ordering and keeping.

Magnificent Mitscher
Published in Hardcover by United States Naval Inst. (November, 1991)
Authors: Theodore Taylor and Jeffrey G. Barlow
Average review score:

magnificent Mitscher
My review would be slightly biased. Adm. Mitscher was the uncle of my Grandmother. The Book, "The Magnificent Mitscher" is spellbinding, and extremely well written. I enjoy reading it completely... to the point that I am going to have to buy another copy as mine is going to wear out soon. My copy is copyrighted in 1954, by Theodore Taylor. It cost my Grandfather $4.50 to get, and was given to my father as a gift.

A fantastic book for anyone interested in WWII and the Pacific Task force 58/38.

An excellent, engaging tale of the Navy's first true aviator
While wary of Naval biographies, I plucked this biography of Mitcher off the Wardroom library shelf for the sheer appeal of the weathered old admiral on the cover; and in so doing proved once again that although we shouldn't judge a book by its cover, a cover sometimes leads one to a very good book indeed. Taylor is commendable not only for his portrayal of Mitcher as an integral player in Naval aviation, but as an individual in his own right. I was captivated not only by tales of his prowess in the tight spots of Naval aviation in the major conflicts of his era, but by the portrayal of his private misgivings and apprehensions. This, coupled with the inclusion of other key players of the times -- Nimitz, Halsey, McCain, and others -- made for an excellent primer on the beginnings of Naval aviation. I highly recommend this work to anyone looking for a few evenings of good reading or an introduction to the intracacies and excitement of Naval aviation.

Maigret and the Killer (G.K. Hall Audio Series)
Published in Audio Cassette by G K Hall Audio Books (August, 1991)
Authors: Georges Simenon and Andrew Sachs
Average review score:

When Maigret meets a serial killer ...
When Maigret meets a serial killer, it's a dramatic face to face and, as usually, Maigret can understand why the killer acts in such an horrible way. Maigret don't excuse the killer but can understand. Like said Simenon : "Understand but not judge".

Great stuff, one of the best Maigrets
This is one of my very favorite Simenon novels; superbly paced and brilliant characterizations.

Making It Big in America: A Self-Made Millionaire Tells How Anyone Can Get Ahead in Business and Life
Published in Paperback by Prima Publishing (June, 1995)
Author: Andrew Wood
Average review score:

Best guiode map to success on the market
A straight forward, easy to understand book that guides the reader, step by step, through the real world obstacles that stand in the way of success and prosperity.

Anyone who reads Making it Big in America, and follows the simple guidelines, cannot help but improve their lot in life dramatically and permanently.

Andrew Wood's excellent book stands alone when compared to other offerings in this field.

A very helpful book in building a life strategy for yourself
Making it Big in America is a book that leads you step by step through the processes of setting and achieving your goals. Mr. Wood uses his life experiences to communicate in an entertaining and insightful way his methods of success. Although there are many other books on this subject available, starting with N. Hill's "Think and Grow Rich", I have not found a book that better communicates the success process in a way that I could understand. Mr. Wood goes through the goal setting process in detail and discusses the importance of motivation, action and persistence in making dreams a reality. I would highly recommend this book to anyone that is in the process of building a better life, from those who are just beginning this process to those who have been involved in the process for many years.

Best sales book I ever read
I just picked this book up at a garage sale. I hope the publishers reprint it because it's the best sales and management book I ever read. I'm making all my sales guys read it. It's very funny, very well written, and very wise. Once I started reading it, I couldn't put it down. Great, great book.

Insightful & funny. A mgmt book that didn't put me to sleep!
Great tips for managers who are looking to motivate their staff. A truly refreshing look at sales, with a "homemade" spin. Advice you could really digest and incorporate into your every day work place.

March or Die (The Fifth Foreign Legion, No 1)
Published in Paperback by New American Library (January, 1992)
Authors: Andrew Keith and William H., Jr. Keith
Average review score:

March or Die
This is a superb book. I've read this at least 4 times. The story-line was riveting. A military force 1,500 kilometers behind enemy lines and surrounded on all sides. Although they had a technological edge in weaponry, it was their spirit and determination that won the day. As the Foreign Legion's motto said, "If you stand, then stand with courage. If you die, do it with honor!" The only regret that I have is that there is only 3 novels in this series. I hope the author writes more!

One of the BEST.
This was the best book of the three Fifth Foreign Legion books that I own. And, have been looking for any more books in the series but, cannot seem to find anymore.
